5 Tips to Eliminate Mosquitos and Enjoy Your Yard.
Summer is fun, relaxing and life seems to just slow down. You are making memories with your friends and family and somehow mosquitos invade those memories too! There are so many things out there that claim to get rid of mosquitos, but what actually works?? Spending our summers killing mosquitos, we have learned a thing or two about what actually keeps them away! While Mosquitos come from all over, so there is no definitive “elimination,” you can get some relief using these tips.
1. Mulch your flowerbeds with Cedar wood mulch
Mosquitos are sensitive to smells such as cedar. This will prevent them from laying eggs in the moist mulch under your scrubs after a rainfall. It will also deter them from flying around that area. If mosquitos are not laying eggs in your yard, there will be a considerable difference in volume of traffic flying through.
2. Plant Marigold flowers in pots around patio sitting areas
Marigolds have a smell also that mosquitos don’t like. Planting these flowers in your flowerbeds or in pots around sitting areas will have the same effect of cedar mulch.
3. Invest in Inzecto mosquito traps
Inzecto mosquito traps lure female mosquitos inside where they lay eggs in chemical water. This will sterilize the eggs and also leave a residue on her that she will transfer to other mosquitos she touches. The chemical will kill mosquitos in all life stages. The reason it is designed to attract the females is because female mosquitos are the only ones that bite and lay eggs. If you want to have Inzectos placed in your yard click here.
4. Have a Colburn’s Pro spray your yard.
Getting your yard sprayed monthly will reduce the amount of mosquitos in your yard to almost none! The application prevents larvae from growing and will also kill mosquitos that touch the grass. To schedule a treatment click here.
5. Spray/diffuse Mint Oil
Mosquitos do not like the smell of mint (or menthol) which will keep them from going near the area! And mint smells really nice to humans. It is a perfect way to liven up the area and keep mosquitos away!
While there may not be a perfect “cure” to get rid of mosquitos, the more they are treated for, the lower their population gets. To get the best possible elimination, ask your neighbors to try these tips with you. This will keep mosquitos out of more yards that surround you.
